the Design Process

What we do:
The client typically says, "Here is the general description of what we want and here is what we want it to do", and gives us a rough idea of what he thinks will be sufficient to fulfill the requirements.

Skills and experience are used to derive a rough proposal for the project. If the client wishes, he can authorize the generation of a 2D or 3D drawing which delineates the operation of the device with all its functions defined in a way that can be readily understood by those involved on the development team.

If the Concept/Proposal phase of the project goes well, and is approved, then an engineering layout drawing is started, which will develop all the interactive components for the job. Calculations are performed at this time and even small math models may be constructed to verify or optimize a particular structure or mechanism within the design. Usually one or more milestone meetings are arranged beforehand as Design Reviews where principal/key employees are present to discuss the pros and cons of the design. Recommendations are made at this time for additions or changes in the proposed design, and the layout is subsequently modified accordingly. The layout undergoes a final check and any calculations which were run previously are re-run and checked for accuracy.

When the layout is complete, and has been approved and signed off by management, the creation of Detailed Drawings begins, and then Assembly Drawings and a Bill of Materials, with complete specifications for all fabricated and purchased components are produced. (Please see the Standard Documentation downloads, located within the Purchasing Page.)

This process will result in the creation of a Design Package which provides a manufacturer with  everything he needs, to fabricate the parts required to produce a machine, or whatever it is that we designed.
